Classique Capital Hoops
On Friday, February 3, the Capital Hoops Classic returns to a neutral site for the first time since 2020. With the games return to The Arena at TD Place, the annual basketball rivalry between the UOttawa Gee-Gees and Carleton Ravens enters its sixteenth year.
Predating the return of the Panda Game, the Capital Hoops Classic is the biggest university basketball rivalry game in Canada having set the U SPORTS basketball attendance records in 2009 and 2015. Since its debut, the Capital Hoops Classic has entertained over 120,000 fans.
This year’s edition not only marks the sixteenth edition of the rivalry, it’s also the fifteenth anniversary of the highly competitive women’s game – a series the Ravens lead 9-5 after winning on the home court in 2022. With Carleton and uOttawa both ranked in the top half of the U SPORTS Top 10, the women’s game promises to be a can’t miss kickoff to an amazing fan experience.
Returning to TD Place for the first time since the pandemic, the 2023 men’s game looks to live up to the excitement of an instant classic from 2020, which the Gee-Gees one in the final seconds. While the Ravens lead the all-time men’s series 12-3, the Gee-Gees currently sit atop the U SPORTS Top 10 while the Ravens are inches behind in third.
Sports fans won’t want to miss the opportunity to be a part of one of the most anticipated and attended rivalry events in U SPORTS. Whether a hardcore basketball fan, a sports fan or a member of either university community, the Capital Hoops Classic is a can’t miss Ottawa event.
